RETEXCAT project

At Hilaturas Jesús Rubio we firmly believe that sustainability is not only a commitment, but an opportunity to transform the textile sector.

As active participants in the RETEXCAT project, we are proud to be part of this ambitious initiative that seeks to revolutionise post-consumer textile recycling and lead the way towards a more circular, responsible and competitive industry.

What is the RETEXCAT project?

RETEXCAT was born as an innovative initiative whose main objective is to industrialise and optimise post-consumer textile recycling.

Its purpose is to categorise, standardise and homogenise each stage of the process, from garment collection to final production, ensuring a continuous flow of secondary raw material that allows the introduction of high quality garments on the market.

This project is being developed within the framework of the Circular Fashion Pact, which brings together more than 100 representatives from different links in the textile value chain, with the aim of responding to the challenges of the sector through joint strategies that promote sustainability.

Who is part of RETEXCAT?

RETEXCAT is made up of a multidisciplinary team that combines fashion brands, industrial companies, management agents and coordinating bodies.

Participating fashion brands:

BOBOLI, MANGO, SIMORRA, SITA MURT, SYSTEMACTION and YERSE, are the brands leading the integration of eco-design in their collections.

Industrial companies involved:

In this project, COLEO acts as the manager and binder of the industrial chain, while DATAMBIENTE and MODACC oversee the technical coordination and overall tasks of the project.

The role of Hilaturas Jesús Rubio in RETEXCAT

At Hilaturas Jesús Rubio, our work consists of processing and transforming post-consumer wool, collected from selective containers, into high quality recycled yarns. This process involves advanced technology and a constant commitment to sustainability.

  • Implementation of innovative processes to maximise the quality of recycled yarns.
  • Collaboration with fashion brands to design sustainable and differentiating products.
  • Technical support to ensure quality standards throughout the recycling chain.

Project benefits

RETEXCAT generates environmental, social and economic benefits for both fashion brands and industrial companies:

For industrial companies

  • Creation of new markets in the recycled textile sector.
  • Increase in the capacity for technological innovation.
  • Improved competitiveness and market differentiation.

For fashion brands

  • Closer connection with their consumers through ‘take back’ programmes.
  • Training in eco-design to transform their collections and adapt to new regulations.
  • Opportunity to lead sustainability in the sector, differentiating themselves from the competition.

The textile recycling cycle

The process begins with the selective collection of clothes in specific containers, where the garments are sorted according to their composition and condition. In the case of wool, garments suitable for recycling are identified during the sorting and separation stage.

Subsequently, the wool undergoes advanced processing techniques for its recovery and transformation into sustainable yarns. Finally, these recycled yarns are integrated into the production of new high quality textile products.

Challenges and solutions

Textile recycling poses technical challenges, such as the efficient separation of materials and the removal of contaminants from fibres. However, RETEXCAT addresses these challenges with:

  • Technological innovation: Developing more efficient and environmentally friendly processes.
  • Establishment of common standards: To guarantee quality and traceability at all stages of recycling.
  • Sectoral collaboration: Joining efforts between brands, industries and consumers.

Expected results and vision for the future

The project aims to consolidate a robust industrial model that maximises the use of resources, minimises waste and promotes the circular economy. Expected results include:

  • Reduction of textile waste in landfills.
  • Introduction of high quality products made from recycled materials.
  • Promotion of a more sustainable, competitive and responsible textile industry.

Commitment to circularity

RETEXCAT not only seeks to transform textile recycling, but also to lay the foundations for a structural change in the entire industry. Its success depends on the joint commitment of all the actors involved, from brands to end consumers.

At Hilaturas Jesús Rubio, we are convinced that initiatives such as RETEXCAT are fundamental to building a more sustainable textile future. Together, we are demonstrating that every yarn counts in the creation of a more circular and responsible business model.
